About Me
Becoming a Marriage and Family Therapist has been a fulfilling and rewarding journey. When I first began considering making this career shift, I had been a researcher NASA Ames for eight years. While I truly believe that space sciences are extremely important, for me it was a lackluster career as I worked alone most of the time. This is when I realized that I thrive with human connection. I also realized that learning about my managers’ childhoods, marriages, children, and emotional struggles was not “typical.” One parting observation a particular manager made to me shortly before I left NASA was that we would spend 30 to 40 minutes talking about life before we would get down to science. In hindsight, this field was calling out to me the entire time. I just didn’t hear it. I will always value my initial experience in this field as a volunteer at a crisis hotline as it taught me the importance of truly being present with someone in their time of despair. And now, it would be an honor to get the opportunity to utilize my diverse work experience, both in and out of the helping field, to help people work through their current struggles including anxiety, depression, and conflicts within relationships. -Kim |
